============================================================ BLFI AGM, Tuesday 20th October 2009 The 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Building Limes Forum Ireland (BLFI) is to be held on Tuesday 20th October 2009 at 6pm. The event is to be hosted at the Irish Architectural Archives, 45 Merrion Square, Dublin 2. http://www.iarc.ie/ Open to all MEMBERS of the BLFI only. ============================================================ Lime workshop, Waterford on Friday the 4th September 2009The Building Limes Forum of Ireland will collaborate with Kilkenny Local Authorities and Waterford County Council to hold a one-day workshop including talks and demonstrations on the use of building limes in the repair and conservation of historic structures. The workshop will be held in the Coastguard Station, Tramore, Co. Waterford on Friday the 4th September 2009. Further information about this event click here to download brochure. Attendance at this workshop will be recognised by the RIAI as ‘Structured CPD’ under the terms of the RIAI Policy on Continuing Professional Development’. ========================================================== BLFI event for members, Kilkenny, Friday the 2nd October 2009A further BLFI event for members only (and their guests) will be held on Friday the 2nd October 2009 and will involve an exploration of the use of lime in the conservation works to the former Bishop’s Palace, now heritage council headquarters in Kilkenny. The venue is the Heritage Council Headquarters, Aras na nOidhreachta, Kilkenny. Further information to be announced. ============================================================ Annual Conference in the UK2009 Conference and Gathering, Chichester Friday 25-27 September 2009The 2009 conference will be held at West Dean College, by Chichester, West Sussex from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September. The theme of the 2009 conference will be education and craft skills. Click here for more information. Irish members of the BLFI are welcomed to The 18th Annual Conference of the UK Limes Forum. The conference programme and booking will open in due course. This three-day event consists of the presentation of papers on the use of lime from users, specifiers, academics and historians and practical demonstrations in the use of lime. Gatherings are informal and friendly with plenty of time for the exchange of views and even to demonstrate skills. Each year a different venue is chosen, both within and outside the UK. Costs are kept to a minimum and include meals and visits to places of interest. in Garston in 2002. At that seminar, the Architectural benefits of lime in
construction were discussed, along with the structural assessment of
loadbearing walls. Since 2002, members of the Building Limes Forum have
been involved with the BRE in the significant amount of research that has
been undertaken. This research has developed the work published in the
book “Hydraulic Lime Mortar for Stone, Brick and Block Masonry”. The
seminar will discuss the results of this research and the implications on
